Respiratory Viruses Policy

This policy replaces and supersedes the COVID Policy of ScoutsBSA Troop 201 that was dated February 28, 2022 and then further updated July 25, 2022. This policy was adopted on September 30, 2024 by the troop committee of ScoutsBSA Troop 201 and applies to all members and guests of ScoutsBSA Troop 201.

Immunizations

It is recommended, but not required, that participants stay up to date with vaccinations for COVID-19, seasonal flu, and other common respiratory viruses such as RSV.

Hygiene

All participants in troop activities are reminded that a Scout is clean, and should cover their coughs and sneezes, wash and/or sanitize their hands frequently, and make sure surfaces – especially those used to prepare and serve food – are clean and disinfected.

Masks and Personal Protective Equipment

The troop committee, leaders, and volunteers of ScoutsBSA Troop 201 will support anyone who chooses to wear masks and/or other personal protective equipment (PPE) while participating in troop activities. Families may require their Scout to wear a mask or PPE, though the troop cannot guarantee compliance. The troop health officer for an event or activity may recommend or require masks or PPE for an event.

Prevention

Members and guests of Troop 201 are required to stay home if they are sick, or believe they may be sick, with a respiratory virus. Those who live in the same house as someone who is sick, or who otherwise came in close contact with someone who is sick, may participate in Scouting activities if they are free of symptoms and take steps to reduce getting others sick, such as wearing a mask and frequently washing or sanitizing their hands.

Health Officer

Any health officer at a troop activity, including the troop health officer or any health officer provided by a camp or event, may recommend or require members or guests take additional hygiene or prevention steps, up to and including asking participants to don a mask, keep a certain distance, or go home.

We Respect the Experts
